I have no doubts about the quality of the repair, I just expected the frame to be repainted where the repairs were made. At the end of the day you body is less likely to be sore.
The chainstays and seatstays are longish but beefy, giving it a smooth ride. I haven't weighed it, and I have no doubt it's heavier than the road bike that comes in somewhere around 16 lbs, but it's definitely plenty light. Riding a full on race bike like my Serotta Legend Ti is great when I’m in terrific shape and want to go out for a hard charging 20-60 miler, but as I get older, aggressive riding is less frequent. Unlike stiffer bikes, the Soma Smoothie holds a line without skipping out when pushed to the maximum.

I was always concerned with paying $1400 for a frame and then taking it out in bad conditions (rain, dirt, mud, etc.). I really liked the finish, it exceeded my expectations for the price point. Slightly extended head tube allows bars to match seat height without looking goofy. It rides stable, comfortable, and is fast enough. It comes with a carbon or steel fork, and requires long reach 57mm caliper brakes. Another problem is that the brake bridge is so low that mounting a fender with a 32mm tire (Compass Stampede) is just about impossible forcing me to go to a much less satisfactory 28mm tire. This is my third bicycle and it’s a great addition to my collection. The price is very reasonable.
